FAQs about our solid wood mantels
-
Can you cut a mantel to a specific length?
Yes, that is one of our processes and we finish the newly cut end.
-
What length do you recommend I cut to?
Scenario 1: If you have stone below and drywall or shiplap above, we recommend to cut the mantel from one edge of the stone to the other edge of stone
Scenario 2: If you have brick or drywall from floor to ceiling we recommend, you inset from end of brick or end of wall, by 4 inches on each side
Scenario 3: All Stone, see question 5.
-
Can I float my fireplace mantel?
Yes, we can provide a custom metal fireplace bracket that can hold hundreds of pounds.
-
Can I install this mantel against drywall?
Yes, with our floating metal hardware bracket, installation is a breeze, see video.
-
Can I install this mantel into stone?
If this is a new construction, then yes mount the mantel first and then install stone around it.
If this is an existing stone fireplace, we recommend finding a fireplace mantel and then removing the stone to insert the mantel. This option can get expensive and very dirty inside the home.
-
How do I know where to place the mantel?
We recommend checking your local fire codes for the height minimums of mantel placement above your fireplace as well as using masking tape. Tape out the size of the mantel and where you think you want it and take a few steps back to make sure that it looks right!
-
Do you install the mantels?
We no longer provide installation services however the mantels are easy to install with two people and have detailed videos you can follow along with! If needed we are happy to recommend some installers in the area who can help.
